Favorite Part ("we," "our," or "the app") is designed to help families build a daily habit of meaningful conversation. Privacy is a core part of how we built it — not an afterthought. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. Favorite Part is operated by Surettech, a sole proprietorship of Jeff Surette based in Massachusetts, USA.
The short version: Your videos are never uploaded to our servers. No account is required. Transcription is handled by iOS, not by us. The only optional data that leaves your device is anonymized topic counts for cross-family insights, which is always opt-in and clearly disclosed.
Video recordings are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party server. You may optionally choose to save individual videos to your own Photos library — this is a deliberate, per-clip action you take from the video's menu, and the resulting copy is governed by Apple's Photos privacy controls (including any iCloud Photos settings you may have).
Favorite Part transcribes recordings using Apple's on-device Speech framework. Audio is processed on your phone and is never sent to our servers. Depending on your iOS settings, Apple may route some recognition requests through its own servers — this is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours. All transcriptions are editable within the app.
Transcribed text is stored on your device. The app automatically detects themes (topics like "friends," "school," "animals") from the transcript to power insights and trend charts. This processing happens entirely on your device using keyword matching — no text is sent anywhere.
Highlight reels are generated entirely on your device using your phone's video processing capabilities. The resulting video file is stored locally. If you choose to share a reel (via Messages, AirDrop, etc.), it is transmitted using iOS's built-in sharing mechanisms, not through our servers.
To power cross-family benchmarks (e.g., "kids ages 4–6 most commonly discuss school and friends"), you may optionally share anonymized topic counts with us. This data contains only: your child's age range and a count of detected topic tags. It contains no names, no transcript text, no audio, and no video. Participation is opt-in, clearly labeled in the app, and can be withdrawn at any time.
We do not collect advertising identifiers, precise location data, or device identifiers linked to your identity. We do not sell data to third parties. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
By default, your videos and library are excluded from your iPhone's iCloud or Mac backup. You can opt in via Settings → iPhone Backup if you want phone-loss recovery. When opted in, your data is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy policy, not ours. This setting does not turn iCloud Backup on or off — that is controlled in your iPhone's Settings.
Favorite Part is designed for use by parents and guardians. Account holders must be adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and all optional data sharing features relate only to anonymized, aggregate patterns — never to individual children's identities.
Because we store no account data or video files on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf. All recordings can be deleted directly from within the app. If you have enabled optional features involving anonymized data, you can withdraw participation in Settings, which stops any further data transmission.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Material changes will be communicated through the app.
